NKU MPA 2025: Part Three

 Hello and Happy Finals Week!

Any college student, undergraduate or graduate, can attest to the fact that Finals Week is simultaneously the worst and best week of the semester. Finals Week is both the frantic late night Steel Library session knocking out a final paper and the sigh of relief you feel when you click that last submit button on Canvas. That is, for some of us. Others get lucky in certain semesters, "How were your finals?" "Oh I didn't really have any this semester." Lucky you. Our brilliant and dedicated faculty always feel the pinch as well, how hard was it to write that fifteen-page essay well imagine having to read and grade twenty of those. With that being said, if your professors end up posting your final grades nearer to the university deadline than you may prefer please remember to give them some grace!

The MPA program is going strong as always here at NKU! For many of us who are pursuing their graduate degrees the summer doesn't represent as much of a "break" as it may have used to during our undergraduate studies. However, another semester completed takes all of us collectively one step closer to our degrees and from there the rest of our lives. Nine MPA students are set to graduate this week, I wish them all the best of luck and good fortune as they take their new degree and public administration expertise out into the workforce. We've also had good news regarding the recent promotions and hiring of many of our MPA alumni as well as current MPA students.

In some bittersweet news our very own Dr. Darrin Wilson will soon be taking a sabbatical leave to pursue the research and writing of a new book! Following this sabbatical over the Fall 2025 Semester however, Dr. Wilson will be leading a study-abroad course for MPA students in Australia! The course is to take place during the Winter 2025 Semester. The course is titled "Parliament vs Presidency: Exploring Governance Down Under." Prospective students can expect a truly breath-taking time in Canberry and Sydney seeing and learning about the various inner workings of political power in Australia! Students interested in political science or public administration cannot ask for a better opportunity to learn through comparative study!

Anyone interested in the wonderful study-abroad opportunity in Australia can reach out directly to Dr. Wilson at wilsond32@nku.edu. Additionally, any current or former MPA students are invited to the MPA Summer Celebration scheduled for June 12th from 6-8PM at Dr. Olberding's house! RSVP through an email to Missy Gish at gishm@nku.edu! I wish everyone from students to faculty and staff a great and happy summer!
